Side by side.
Both take on work and keep going. One is an open-source agent you run; the other is a service for a team.
| Dimension | OpenClaw | Chat with Work |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An open-source (MIT) agent that connects chat apps to AI models, stewarded by the OpenClaw Foundation. | An AI agent for work, connected to your team's tools, as a service or on your own servers. |
| Hosted for you | No: its homepage says "No hosted tier". Other companies sell hosting for it. | Yes, on our servers in Germany. Or on yours. |
| Keeps going when you close your laptop | Only if you host it on a machine that stays on. | Yes, every chat. |
| Setup | Install from the command line, add model API keys, pair chat channels, and harden it. | Sign up and connect a tool. |
| A team | A team can share one gateway and its sessions, but it "assumes one trusted operator", not a shared multi-tenant service. A multi-tenant OpenClaw Enterprise is in development. | Organizations, roles, projects, and guests. Each person's connected accounts and tool results stay their own. |
| Before it changes anything | Command approvals, which default to full access without asking on gateway and node hosts; an auto mode and allowlists are optional. | Every change to your tools waits for your approval. Deleting always asks, and admins can turn changes off for everyone. |
| Code and commands | A shell, files, and a browser on the host, unless you set up sandboxing. | Code in a sandbox on our servers with no network, seeing only the chat's files. On your computer, commands only in folders you allow, each approved, in a sandbox (Mac and Linux). |
| Scheduled work | Yes: its scheduler wakes the agent and delivers to a chat channel or a webhook. | Yes: say when in plain words, and each run arrives as a new chat, any change still waiting for approval. |
| Where you talk to it | WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Signal, iMessage, and more: 29 channels. | The web app, the iOS and Android apps, and your computer's terminal. |
| Models | Any provider, with your own keys; where data goes depends on the ones you pick. | Gemini, GPT, Claude, and Qwen, all processed in the EU. Self-hosted: any provider, or local models. |
| Open source | Yes, all of it (MIT). | The Local Agent, which connects your computer. The rest is a service we run, or you run on your servers. |
| Security record | By its own security page: 1,799 reports since January 2026, 722 fixed and published, 39 with a CVE, and 14 confirmed critical, all fixed. | Read our security page. |
| Price | Free, plus model usage and hosting. | Free to start. From €20 a month for one person, and from €25 per person for teams plus VAT (opening soon). |

FAQ
Before choosing an OpenClaw alternative.
Is Chat with Work an OpenClaw alternative?
Yes, for teams that want an agent at work without installing, hosting, and securing one themselves. It runs on our servers in the EU, each person's tools stay their own, and every change to your tools waits for approval. OpenClaw fits people who want full control of an open-source agent on their own machine and are ready to run it.
Is there a hosted OpenClaw?
Not from OpenClaw itself: its homepage says "No hosted tier". Other companies sell hosting for it. Chat with Work isn't OpenClaw or a host for it: it's a separate agent for work that we run for you, on our servers in Germany with models in the EU.
Can a team use OpenClaw?
A team can share one gateway and open each other's sessions. Its security page says it assumes one trusted operator, not a shared multi-tenant service, and a multi-tenant OpenClaw Enterprise is in development. Chat with Work is built for teams: organizations, roles, projects, and guests, with each person's connected accounts and tool results kept their own.
Can Chat with Work run commands on my computer?
Only if you want it to. Pair your computer with the open-source Local Agent, allow commands in a folder there, and once an admin turns commands on for the organization, it can run commands like your tests in that folder, each one approved by you, in a sandbox with no network unless you allow it. On Mac and Linux. It also runs code in a sandbox on our servers, with no network and only the chat's files, to calculate and to build files.
Is Chat with Work open source?
Only the Local Agent, which connects your computer, is open source. The rest of Chat with Work is a service we run, or that you can run on your own servers.
